Byron Bay - I loves ya! That´s why Sharan and i ended up staying nearly a whole week here....a record on our journey up the coast so far. And why? Hard to put a finger on it. The place is equally laid back (see all those people who visit Nimbin) and happening too - see Cheeky Monkey´s.
Spend our days, some of it watching it tip it down, chatting with some great characters - big up to the Dolecek boys from the States, Ryan and Nick, who were some of the most genuinely nice guys you could hope to meet, Ali from Liverpool, Swede Peter. Hosted a couple of Nintendo DS tournaments....they got a great using right there, charging them up every day.
Here we tried Kangaroo, very tasty....best raw and well cooked by Nick who picked it up after sourcing it from a local butcher.
Hazy nights spent at the incredibly cheesy Cheeky Monkey´s dancing on tables and the enjoying the wet t. shirt competitons....i didn´t win.
The walk round the lighthouse and Oz´s most easterly point is a trek but well worth it all the while. Got to marvel at turtles swimming in the surf from the top near the lighthouse. Amazing.
Other highlights include finding 50 bucks on the street in the rain, lots of kebabs and Subway meatball sandwiches, cooking for ourselves and shopping in the Woolworth´s supermarket, chilling on the beach when it wasn´t raining, lots of reading.
Byron Bay has a power, make a trip and don´t resist it. Next up Surfers.
