Another early start at Gunns Camp on Monday morning finally got us on
our way out of Milford Sound country and we got our foot down and
headed to Invercargill, the southern most town in NZ.
After stopping off at another of the lighthouse signposts that they
seem to love so much over here, it meant that in about a month we had
travelled from the very northern tip at Cape Reinga to the most
southerly point.
With that done, there actually wasn't much else left to do as we had
decided to skip visiting Stewart Island (the anchor for the 'boat' of
the south island in Maori legend), as Invercargill had more of a
slightly tacky British seaside resort feel to it than being massively
happening!
Still, we put the day to good use after catching an episode of
Emmerdale on TV which, together with the Christmas stuff outside had
made us think of home more than usual, we visited the museum where
there was the oldest living dinosaur which is a tuatara named Henry
(which made us happy at the choice of name for our little mascot, as
it's better than being names after an off licence no?!!).
After that we went ten pin bowling at a pretty special place where we
discovered that Hutch is actualy pretty woeful at it! Obviously it's
quite different to playing it on the Wii back home!! I on the other
hand impressed the slightly scary woman there with a good score,
though it did come at a cost by pulling my groin and back!!
We then went to the cinema later in the afternoon before rustling up a
quality tuna pasta bake at the hostel, to finish off a day that really
had a homely feel to it!!!
