So after a heavy night it was an early start on a public bus to Phnom Penh (The capital city). 4 hours has never seemed so slow and painful but totally self inflicted! We spent our 1st night in the hotel room watching movies and stuffing take away pizza - really experiencing Cambodian culture!! Next day we had an organized tour to S-21 and the Killing fields. S-21 was a former school which during the Khmer Rouge regime was used as a prison and torture centre. One side of the building had the photographs of the victims - thousands of men, women and children, it was awful especially as this happened only in the 70's. Next we went to the Killing fields - a mass grave found outside the city centre. As you walk around you can still see the bones in the ground and thousands of human skulls in a glass memorial. It was very difficult not to feel moved by these places but I guess its helped us to understand the history here and respect the people more knowing what the country has been through. We have really enjoyed our time in Cambodia. Can't believe we only left home less than 3 weeks ago, have done so much, met loads of people and have far too many photos already!
