Our last day in Oz!
It's gone so so fast. After Noosa we travelled down to Surfer's Paradise for a night...uneventful and very hyped up we thought! It was so weird to see all the skyscrapers and the massive buildings after the little seaside towns we've been visiting. After a boring night in an out-of-the-way hostel there, (very unfriendly staff and a bad atmosphere) we paid a ridiculous amount to travel 2 km with our bags to get the greyhound on to Byron Bay.
Again, our hostel was really out of the way but everyone was really friendly, fantastic atmosphere and best of all it was amazing weather, sunny with a lovely sea breeze, hooray! We wandered around town and sunbathed on the beach for a bit, its a really relaxed place compared with Surfer's Paradise...much nicer.
Our first night there we met a really cool group of people and went out with them, I won't elaborate on that night's events, suffice to say it was funny. The next day we had a tour of Nimbin village, we didn't actually realise the whole point of the trip was to buy hash cookies and smoke dope, it's a very hippy little place and a bit quirky. We settled for a smoothie, don't worry parents! The tour was a bit boring as the place was so small but we went waterfall jumping on the way back which was brilliant.
The next day we walked up to the top of Cape Byron to see the lighthouse, and we saw dolphins, yay! Very jealous of the people kayaking with them, we were clearly ripped off when we went in 1770.
Went out again that night, always fun, coincidentally met some people we went out with in Thailand, and some people from our group on the Fraser tour, it is a very small world as I have said before!
We ended up walking back to the hostel and staying up very late, not a good idea as our bus was at 6.50...we woke up this morning at 6.49. Bad times there. After a mild panic, we managed to get some seats on a shuttle to Brisbane, so that's where we are now! Waiting for our mountain of washing to dry, and then it's tuna pasta time :)
NEW ZEALAND TOMORROW! Can't wait, we are flying in the same time as Kate so we're meeting her off her plane, then we have a night in Auckland...see where it goes from there really!
Despite what Mum seems to think, we are missing home, and everyone there! A lot! Almost as much as we miss pasties and proper dairy milk (the stuff here is terrible). We will update after a while in NZ!
Much love, hope everyone's enjoying the sun! Luce and Em xxx
