Weird and Wonderful things to know before living in Australia!

1. Supermarkets don't sell alcohol
2. To buy alcohol, either go to a warehouse full of the stuff, or to a drive through (yes!)bottle shop
3. Woolworths sells food and only food
4. Lemonade is called lemonade, cloudy lemonade is called lemon squash or just lemon
5. Most people get up early, when the sun comes up, and are in bed before 9 or 10pm (it's all to do with the sunlight)
6. Different states are in different time zones, as well as different daylight saving hours (QLD doesn't have daylight saving)
7. While the guide books say that the clothes are the same sizes as in the UK, they aren't always
8. Geckos are everywhere. They only come out at night, they eat only insects, and they make funny popping noises.
9. Pedestrian crossings make funny noises when they want you to cross, and the cars may also have a green light when the pedestrians do - so be warned!
10. Air conditioning is a must everywhere! If your hotel/hostel doesn't have air con, probably best not to stay there!
